The Holt Lab The Holt Lab

I’m you’re interested in protist parasites and keen to learn some fun bioinformatics, take a look at our PhD project currently being advertised!

The project “Identifying signatures of host specificity in protist parasites genomes” aims to leverage existing genomic data to model predictors of host range. Initially computer-based, the student will then test their predictions in the lab and in the field, looking for protists of interest in newly predicted hosts.

The project is funded through the University of Bath’s URSA programme. The studentship includes: home or overseas student fees, a training support fund (great for conferences!), and a stipend of £19,237 each year for 3.5 years (PhDs in the UK are typically completed within 4 years). A limited number of these studentships are given each year. Once a candidate is chosen, they are then screened by the department.

This project will be co-supervised by Dr. Vicky Hunt and the candidate will be able to engage with the Hunt lab throughout.

The project is fairly open-ended, and I’m keen for the student to pursue their interests and ideas within this space. Feel free to reach out via email or follow the ad instructions to apply!
